Daily Blogger: March 22, 2013

Today, I woke up and outside white snow was laid out on the ground. Although there was no late start, I was still happy it was Friday. To start my day I went to Math where I learned how to multiply Polynomials and Monomials. Next I went to science where I studied for NESA testing and also for our Chapter 12 quiz. We also finished a movie about volcanoes we had started earlier in the week. Our next class was Civics where we discussed out Rosenberg Trial recreation. Fourth Period, we have reading where we took our Vocabulary test and then read our novels for the rest of the period.

In English class today we printed off our final drafts of the why we want to go to college essays. We then handed them in and studied for NESA tests using grammar apps on the iPads.
Have a Great Weekend!

March 19 by Allison B.

On Tuesday, March 19, it was a normal day at O’Neill Schools.  It started out as a normal morning of walking into the lunchroom to get my normal breakfast: fruit snacks and apple juice.  Then a normal day of classes: math and science, but then in social studies, we started to talk about the Cold War.  With learning this lesson, our class is going to make a re-creation of the Rosenberg Trial.  My part in the trial is being Roy Cohn, a Prosecution lawyer.
Then the day was normal through reading, study hall, and lunch, but in English we started learning about a “Why I Want to Go to College” essay contest.  With this contest, all of the students get to write an essay persuading the UNL College for why we want to go to college and why we think college is important.  We all started off by writing a pre-write of our essay. Our pre-write is basically how we want our essays to look and what information will be in each paragraph.
We finished off the day with a normal class of business trends and then went outside for a normal day of track.  Overall, I think I would say today was a normal day.
In the picture on the side, it shows Jason and Sabrina finishing their pre-write for the "Why I Want to Go to College" essay.

This morning we had breakfast pizza, and it was so good! If you can tell I am very hungry right now. In first period English we corrected our Sentence Writing Strategy Review Packet. It’s hard, but get it done folks. In Second period Algebra ½ we did skills 8-7. If you don’t know what biased means, look it up! In third period Civics we finished our test over the Bill of Rights. In fourth period study hall I worked on my Algebra with Zach. It was then that I remembered it was my Daily Blogger day.
Phew….close one. In fifth period Science we studied the Human Body Systems, it’s not as gross as it sounds. Today for lunch we had chicken stew with a fresh baked biscuit, cheeseburger, or sub sandwich. I’d stick with the cheeseburger and maybe some fruit. Now on to sixth period we are got new vocab word and we worked on bridging strategy. It’s boring, but we have to get it done. Right Mrs. Nordby and Mrs. Kelly? ;) Now in 7th period Ag I think we read chapter 3. Then to round off our day we head to P.E. and that means it’s TRACK time!!!!!

In 7th period Ag we are working on some projects about the history of agriculture. My project is on the history of making milk. How they did it and where they got the ingredients.

Hey everyone today is Friday. I know I just stated the obvious on what day it is, but it is fun too. Now for what today brought us.

In Mr. Hesse’s first period Geography we finished up giving our presentations. After that we had to fill in all of the countries in Africa on a map. It may sound easy which it is but next week we have to take a test on it.
Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Troester’s second period English worked on Daily Grammar Practice (DGP) and once we were done with that we worked on compound and complex sentences. I know what your thinking complex sentences sound hard but they really aren’t. We then started our homework for English, which was a 1B complex sentences page.
After English we went to third period Science where we had to take a test on Earthquakes. The test was only 25 questions and really easy. Once we got done we had time to work on our earthquake simulations and whatever other homework that we had.
In fourth period Reading, Mrs. Troester, had us take a Unit 6 test. The test was going over what we had learned in unit six which was voice, style, tone, irony, and all of that fun stuff. After we were done with our test we read until the bell rang.
Fifth period is my study hall and we just work on what we got for homework at the beginning of the day. With everyone up and out of their seat talking to their friends is how it starts.
Mr. Hilker gives us Math homework that has to do with outcomes and probability. We are just doing more practice with Experimental Probability. I think that it is really easy.
Career Guidance is the last class for some of us although we still have P.E. In Career Guidance we looked around on a website. When we were done with that we figured out what treat we wanted for being good and getting treats. Mrs. Shueth makes it homemade and our treat will be root beer floats.
In P.E. we went out and did some track events. The group that I was in did discus. A lot of people have good form for throwing discus. Today was a good day.

Our map for Geography.

Our DGP for the day.

What we did in Career Guidance.

My favorite place essay

Although I have many places I enjoy going to, the O’Neill swimming pool is my favorite.  Every year during the summer I go to the pool to hang out with friends and have fun in the cool water.
The swimming pool is considered my second home, and it is where you would find me on a hot summer day. Walking in the door to the building, you can instantly feel the happiness of people. Then going through the locker room you get even closer. Finally, you’re there.
The first thing I see is the big blue cement box with somewhat round edges and how it is filled to the top with glistening water and smiling people. The sun is shining bright and is making me want to get in even more, so I lay down my dark blue towel and jump in.
I feel the hot and rough cement against my feet as I jump, and in the blink of an eye I am in the water; wet and cooled off.  A grin goes over my face and I know this is the place that I enjoy the most.

Spring Break is Here! Today is March 6, 2013. I don't know if you guys are excited, but I know that I am. Even though we got out early today, it was still a busy day. This morning in geography we played a game of current events and got back our test scores. In English we watched some of the videos that groups have been working on, and in Reading we read our stories that we chose to read for the next three weeks. Finally we went to sixth period and got out early, so we get the next five days off. I hope you all have a great spring break.
