VFW Commander Roger Lang visits 6th period

Roger Lang from the VFW visited O'Neill's 6th period English class on Tuesday, Oct. 30.  He shared great insight into topics of patriotism and the history of serving our country.  His knowledge serves as inspiration for students' "Patriot's Pen" essay contest entries which are due later this week.   In addition, Zeb interviewed Roger for his CBL project focusing on the problem of PTSD suffered by many military persons.  Roger's knowledge and insight was much appreciated and greatly respected by all.

Editor of Norfolk Daily News videochats with English class

Kent Warneke, editor of the Norfolk Daily News, was kind enough to Skype into our 2nd period English class today and share information with our class about writing letters to the editor for publishing in the newspaper.  Kent talked us through many tips for getting your point across through your writing including the great ideas on this handout he shared with us.
Students in 2nd period, please leave a comment sharing some of the things you learned from Mr. Warneke's talk with our class.

Tuesday, October 30 - Justin K

Today in English we looked at our Patriot's Pen Essays and got a paper to have two students in 8th grade to proofread it and sign the paper along with the date and one adult too. Hurricane Sandy has made a crane arm dangle high up in the air ready to fall at any minute. In science, we had a man come from the sewage treatment plant (or something like that) to talk to us about waste water he had a big bottle of water that was clear and we put many different things in it including urine and shook it up we were supposed to let it settle but I don't think it did when we were in there and I think when a kid named Jason shook it it started leaking.
